Teachers Resources

'Religion and Place in Tower Hamlets' links across many areas of the curriculum, primarily Art & Design and Religious Education, but also including elements of Literacy, Citizenship, History and Geography.

The Building Exploratory hopes that the approach pioneered through 'Religion and Place in Tower Hamlets' will be applied further afield, providing opportunities for many to learn about religious beliefs and practice and the way this has shaped their area. This section of the website will be developed in the future to provide downloadable resources to support teachers with this process. Examples of our approach can be seen below.

We are also looking to work with teachers to pilot ways of using the completed faith chests as a learning resource here at the Exploratory. If you would like to be involved in this or would like further information about the project as a whole, please contact our Education Team on 020 7275 9220.

Workbooks

The Building Exploratory developed these workbooks to help students record their experiences of the building visits through words and images. The artists worked with the teacher and the project team to amend the workbook template, focusing the activities within on the particularities of the buildings and the direction of their work.

Card game

The Building Exploratory developed packs of playing cards using images of the interiors and exteriors of the borough's faith buildings alongside images of local people. The cards can be used in many different ways and provide a way of engaging with the diversity of people and places in the borough.
